Virtual Savvy Caregiver Series

An evidence based 6 week (2 hours each week) series presented by Edith Gendron that provides the non-professional caregiver with the knowledge, skills, tools and strategies to increase confidence and reduce the stress of caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s disease or other form of dementia.

  • Week  1: Introduction  to  series,  and  participants.  Understanding  purpose  of the series.  The  role  of the  caregiver.  overview  of  the  dementias.  Learning  the  elements  of  thought, and strategies to work with changes.
  • Week 2: Recognizing stress, managing stress and associated feelings, learning about behavior and methods for caring for the caregiver. Exploring grief.
  • Week 3: Evaluating abilities and learning structure and support to facilitate independence in the person living with Alzhiemer’s disease. Changes in abilities demonstrated through videos depicting progression of the disease.
  • Week 4: Structure and support to provide contented involvement for the person living with Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Week 5: Applying structure to daily life. Making important decisions through use of a decision making tool.
  • Week 6: Menu of opportunities, recipes for success, managing help from others, efficient health care visits. Presentation of certificates. Post survey questionnaires. Presentation of certificates.
